The client desired a serene Japanese-style garden around the house. The entrance garden took inspiration from the motif of the famous garden of the Shoden-ji temple in Kyoto where the formal composition is made by a group of ball-shaped boxwood. The garden connecting the sub-entrance and the living room became a roji (garden around the room for tea ceremony) whereas the front garden that looks onto the road became a karesansui. A group of five rocks in front of the main entrance of the house was made into lanterns. The ramp leading to the back garden turned into a staircase of tobiishi (natural stepping stones).
